Arya got a butterfly house for Christmas. We sent off and caterpillars arrived in the mail. They grew very quickly and soon spun chrysalises (Arya called them the butterflies, "raccoons") Then after about a week they hatched into butterflies. We observed then for a few days before we let them go in our backyard. The girls liked to watch them fly off to their new homes.

Fun! Our neighbors did this for a 1st grade science fair project, which was great until the cat tore the netting off and ate the butterflies ;(
